INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOTHERAPY

online

In online therapy you will find the way to express yourself and abstract yourself from the place where you are, feeling for a while that you are not there, even if it is your own home. We will work on any discomfort that appears during the sessions as well as the main reason for the consultation that has led you to ask for an appointment or the existing diagnosis, if any. Online therapy has proven to obtain the same results as face-to-face therapy, besides allowing you to save time and money in transportation and travel.

INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOTHERAPY

on-site

In face-to-face therapy you will be able to have your space for reflection and personal work outside your familiar places. We will also focus on the discomfort that may appear during the sessions as well as the reason for the initial consultation, or the existing diagnosis (if any). The face-to-face is oriented to people who feel safer having their therapist physically or when there is fear to start a therapeutic process, in this way we help to strengthen the bond and therapeutic adherence especially in the first sessions, and later, if the patient wishes to move to the online option.

PROCESO Y METODOLOGÍA

The necessary information is collected through a set of questions that the therapist asks the patient to explore different areas of his or her life, such as family and social environment, relationships, medical history, current situation and the reason for consultation. This first session is of special value since it will allow us to draw a first outline to know the approximate direction that the therapeutic process will take. In addition, we sow the first seeds in the patient’s brain through psychoeducation, the order of the information provided and the explanation of the therapeutic process. In this way you will observe the first sprout obtained: the gratification of having been able to ask for help, which implies having done something for oneself from responsibility and self-compassion.

If the therapist considers it necessary, some tests will be administered to facilitate the diagnostic orientation through psychometric screening or diagnostic questionnaires, as appropriate, to detect the most significant current symptoms in relation to the presenting distress. Likewise, a deeper exploration of the most important areas of life, of the different roots that are rooted in their being and in the construction of their cortex will continue to be carried out.

At this point the therapist will direct, depending on the case, his intervention in trying to reduce the discomfort of the present symptoms, those that the person finds in their daily life and that prevent them from continuing normally, to simultaneously and / or subsequently move on to address those problems more deeply rooted in their being.

This is the last step of the therapeutic process. Here the sessions will decrease in frequency and increase the time distance between them to ensure the absorption of the nutrients provided by the therapeutic intervention. And once the healthiest state of the tree of life has been reached, the patient will be recommended for therapeutic discharge.

How many sessions are necessary?

It is very difficult to answer this question, since each person is unique and, therefore, so is his or her process. It is important to be guided by the professional recommendation in terms of frequency and duration of treatment, however the patient is free to abandon the therapeutic process whenever he/she wishes. From the integrative perspective from which I work, it is not possible to ensure a specific number of sessions, there are people who are for 6 months and others for 3 years, but it can vary depending on life history, present diagnoses, current situations and different events in the life of the person that may occur.

Will I need other professionals as well?

Your therapist will be able to guide you and recommend suitable professionals in case it is necessary for you to go, which is not always the case. Always depending on the problem presented and its seriousness, the therapist is obliged to refer you to the appropriate service, as well as to refer you to another therapist if your request is beyond his/her specialties or competences or if there are unchangeable obstacles in the therapeutic process.

How do I know if I should see a psychologist?

If you feel that you have had an emotional or psychological discomfort for some time and you do not understand where it comes from, or people in your trusted environment are recommending you to go, or strong situations have happened to you throughout your life that you have never worked on and you believe that today they do not affect you, etc. When in doubt, I would always recommend you to make a first visit and discuss this doubt with the therapist so that she can guide you in your decision by evaluating different areas of your life and your current situation or symptomatology.

Are specific techniques used?

Depending on the type of problem that the person presents, the therapist will use certain techniques or others. Sometimes they will be more reflective or psychoeducational in the session itself, while other times practical exercises will be done in the session or homework will be sent. By working from an integrative perspective, the intervention is adapted to each specific patient.
